Marcus McCallen // Shane Powers

Marcus McCallen has been an integral part of the Northern California music scene for over twenty years. Recognized as a versatile, soulful singer and accomplished guitarist, he has shared the stage with Van Morrison, Chris Isaak, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jessie Colin Young, The Pointer Sisters, The Sons of Champlin, Peter Rowan, The Rowan Brothers, Richard Marks, and many others. His recording projects have included sessions at Neil Young`s Broken Arrow Ranch, produced by Nashville`s legendary Ben Keith (Jewel, Neil Young). He has also collaborated and performed with Gene Clark (The Byrds), Bob Johnston (Bob Dylan`s producer), and Columbia recording artist, Pamela Polland. His mentors include Clive Gregson (The Richard Thompson Band), and Nina Gerber (guitarist for Kate Wolf). Marcus recently returned to Northern California after spending five years in Nashville where he studied various songwriting forms with some of the finest songwriters in the world. He is currently in the studio working on his next album of original material.

Shane Powers has been a musician for nearly 50 years, 20 of them professionally. From 1993 to 2005, Shane played solo trumpet and sang with the 10-piece band High Street, a swing/rock/funk/jazz band based in Boise, Idaho. High Street traveled extensively through the United States, playing festivals and events such as Mammoth Lakes Jazz Festival, Sacramento Jazz Festival and the Boardwalk Ballroom in Disney World Orlando, and opened for John Tesh, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Huey Lewis & The News. In 2014, Shane picked up his first guitar and gradually began writing music.

In 2020, Shane’s girlfriend and music collaborator died suddenly, the night before sweeping fire evacuations due to multiple wildfires in the area. Shane wandered around the Mendocino Coast for a few months, writing music and grieving his loss. He ended up living for a year and a half in the old Caspar Inn, writing music every day, songs about love, loss, home and change. Those songs became an album in process called Earthlier Things, mixed and mastered by local music legend Calvin Turnbull. Shane has performed locally in Schenachie Pub, Cucina Verona and The Well of Mendocino.
