Canadian-American songwriter Rachael Kilgour expertly balances her poignant, literate songs with her quick wit, landing somewhere between a comedy special and a funeral. Listeners can expect to laugh, weep, and reflect on their own relationships with fatherhood, mortality and grief.
Kilgour was the 2015 Grand Prize Winner of the NewSong Music Competition and a 2017 Kerrville New Folk Contest Winner, and has been featured at NYC’s Lincoln Center and The Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Her oft-noted “unapologetic lyrics” (Rolling Stone) and “master crafted indie folk” sensibilities (Billboard) are on full display in this latest collection of delicately woven songs.
Opening the evening is whatever mike! whatever mike’s soulful vocals, provocative songwriting, and uplifting queer spirituality have established them as an unique voice on the national scene. With a sound that is reminiscent of Frank Ocean, Francis and the Lights, Bon Iver, and Prince, whatever mike transcends genre and gender and invites listeners to step into their world of "Hope Pop.”
Mike's shows are often described as "queer church" with a music ministry of transformation, compassion, and liberation. Their 2023 EP, “Word to the Trees” confronts humanity's relationship with nature, offering a non-binary perspective on how we hold grief and love in the same breath.
