Drawing apt comparisons to Low, Radiohead, Modest Mouse, and Yo La Tengo: Idle WAVes layers analog synths, pianos, driving Indie Rock guitar, electronic drums and close vocal harmonies, alchemizing their gifts into an expressive sound that is entirely their own. Joseph Beeney (piano/synth/vox) and Quinn Fields (guitar/vox) have a knack for conjuring haunting, enchanting narrative melodies which drift in and out like the marine layer ubiquitous to the Mendocino Coast where the two were raised: what is partially obscured by fog one moment, gives way to stunning emotional clarity in the next. With projection art created by drummer Reyna Cinnamon and thoughtful sound design by synth player/audio engineer Brandt Thiem, Idle WAVes’ performances draw audiences into a transfixing, immersive journey: at once familiar, strange, and not to be missed.
